H. I. Donnough (Nicolas Cage), a twice-convicted criminal and notorious petty thief, finds himself in prison again and again. During one of his stays behind bars, he falls in love with a charming young policewoman named Edwina. Since the affection is mutual, they decide to get married after his release. Against all odds, they become a happy and harmonious married couple. However, there is one cloud on the horizon of their happiness: Edwina cannot have children. And both of them long very much for a baby. Because of McDonnough’s past, adoption is out of the question. One day they decide to obtain a child in another way—at any cost. The only possible solution is kidnapping. They choose and abduct one of the newly born quintuplets of local tycoon and magnate Nathan Arizona. Needless to say, the wealthy father naturally tries to get his child back, so the hard-won happiness does not last long. Gale and Evelle, the thief’s former prison buddies, hoping to claim a hefty “finder’s fee,” kidnap little Arizona themselves. Soon the child is being searched for not only by Arizona senior—who hires a skilled gunman—but also by the little boy’s “adoptive parents”...
