The second part of the film saga about a dangerous journey to destroy the cursed ring of power begins where the first one left off. Once again, the main character is the hobbit Frodo. He has acquired from his kinsman Bilbo the magical ring coveted by the dark Sauron, and so finds himself at the very centre of the struggle between the forces of light and darkness.

As the leader of a community made up of his friends, a wizard, an elf, a dwarf and other helpers, Frodo continues his journey to the top of the volcano to destroy the ring once and for all. The first episode was nominated for a Golden Globe and won an AFI Award. Thanks to audience interest, it exceeded $350 million in profits and, most importantly, convinced fans of the book that this now-classic story could be successfully adapted into a film.
