Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer trying to defend the city from his arch-enemy Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) in contemporary Manhattan. But Balthazar is not enough to do it alone, so he seeks the help of Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly ordinary man who harbors unsuspected possibilities, and makes him his apprentice despite his doubts.
The sorcerer quickly initiates his unwilling apprentice into the secret art of magic and spells, and together the unlikely duo attempt to use their skills to take on some of the most aggressive and devious wizards of all time.
