Kubrick's brilliant saga of the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. A superb cast: the Joker (Matthew Modine) Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onoforio), Eightball (Dorian Harewood), Cowboy (Arliss Howard) and others are thrown into the hell of a training camp ruthlessly ruled by a sniveling D.I. (Lee Ermey), who sees these potential messengers of evil as sissies, tarts or something less.
Lee, I want this to look real, Kubrick told Ermey early in the filming. "Otherwise I wouldn't even play it for you," this former Marine sergeant replied. The action is brutal, the story fierce and the dialogue laden with biting humour. From the rawness of the training camp to the horrors of the battle in the city of Hue, Lead Vest is a huge directorial achievement...
