When Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and her husband successfully crossed illegally from Mexico into America, they thought they had made it. They both found jobs and began to lead a peaceful life. However, this is disrupted every year by The Purge, a morbid tradition that turns the United States into a hell full of lawlessness for twelve hours. None of the emergency services are working, and all crimes, including the most serious ones, are completely legal. But Adela has managed to solve even this ‘inconvenience’ by always hiding with her husband in a friendly community that knows how to defend itself against potential attackers. The moment the sirens sound, signalling the end of the Purge, all the drama ends abruptly, the wounded and dead are collected, the damage is repaired, and life goes on. Unless, of course, someone decides to continue the rampage regardless of the consequences. And when several people get the same idea at once, the bloodbath in which everyone fights against everyone else is unstoppable. Those who want to survive must either be better armed or take advantage of the short window during which the benevolent Mexican government leaves its borders open to American refugees.
