Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) does what he does best. He makes his living as a professional burglar. He and his crew steal the bonds of money magnate Roger van Zant (William Fichtner). However, the operation didn't go so well, as one of the gang members, Waingro (Kevin Gage), shot the entire crew of the armored car. When McCauley eventually tried to take Waingro out, he ran away and disappeared. Detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) is on the trail of the gang. Hanna, like McCauley, is also doing what he does best, but he's on the other side of the law. What's more, his third marriage is falling apart as he sacrifices all his time to his work. A battle begins between two men who know each other's every move, and both have a plan to get the other...
