Description:

She was just six days old when Mary (Saoirse Ronan, Oscar nominee) became Queen of Scotland after the death of her father. At 16, she added the title of Queen of France through marriage, but when she was widowed two years later, her heart was dragged home.
From the start, the eighteen-year-old had to defend her throne from rebellious Scottish clans, plus she faced open hostility from the clan-allied Queen Elizabeth of England (Margot Robbie), whose rule she refused to acknowledge. The aversion was mutual, with Elizabeth resenting Mary not only as a rebellious rival but also as the mother of the future King James. For the English monarch's prospects in this respect were, for many reasons, poor.
On the other hand, the two monarchs were united by their isolation in an all-male environment, which gave them mutual understanding, even respect. But the British Isles were too small for two such powerful women, and they both knew it. The only question was which of them would decide to take the first step to eliminate the other, and how much it would hurt...
