If you wanted to simply label Christine (Saoirse Ronan), you would classify her as a rebel. She's not particularly pretty and masks her acne-filled face with pink hair. She's not particularly clever and makes up for this deficit by claiming to have artistic inclinations. Perhaps the most interesting thing about her is that, as a symbol of defiance, she rejects her first name, calls herself Lady Bird and wants everyone else to call her that. When we first meet her, we are treated to her brutal argument with her mother, after which she angrily gets out of the car. Driving. And yet, this perpetually grumpy girl with the broken arm (the result of the aforementioned incident) is actually a sensitive soul who just wants to fall in love and find meaning in life the right way, and is just nervous that she's not getting much of either so far...
