Ramses, a prince in ancient Egypt, meets the beautiful Jewish girl Sarah during military exercises, and they become lovers. The high priest Herhor plots against the prince because he resents Ramses' interest in state affairs – it could weaken the influence of the priests and prevent them from continuing to amass treasures at the expense of the state. Ramses is preparing to conquer Assyria in order to enrich his country, while the priests are secretly making a pact with Assyria. Young Ramses sets out at the head of the army to suppress the rebellious Libyan regiments when he receives news of the death of his father, the pharaoh, and the murder of Sarah and their young son. Ramses is determined to reform the country and confiscate the enormous treasures that the priests hide in the labyrinth. When Ramses decides to use the army to attack the sanctuary, the high priest Herhor stands against him with a completely unexpected weapon: just before the solar eclipse, he begins to invoke the god Amun in his speech to the soldiers and the rebellious people. The natural phenomenon that immediately follows is understood by the people as proof of divine displeasure. Panic ensues, but the pharaoh does not give up the fight...
