Michael McCauley lives a contentedly boring family life with no ups and downs. He sells insurance, lives out of town with his family, and commutes to and from work by regular train. Every day, for ten years now, since he left the police force. Today wasn't a good day, and like always, he's getting on the train and looking forward to getting home. Greeting familiar conductors and familiar faces. The doors close, the train pulls out of the station and there is no indication yet that this journey will be any different and that Liam Neeson's character will reach the bottom of his physical and mental strength during it. After a while on the ride, an attractive woman (Vera Farmiga) sits next to him and asks him a simple, slightly disturbing question: "What kind of person are you?" Under the influence of her personal charm and an envelope of money, Michael is drawn into a strange and deadly game. He must find someone on the train who doesn't belong there. If he fails, he loses his family, if he succeeds, he gets a reward. Rejection is not an answer. As the train speeds on, the mysterious game master watches its every move and the distance to the final station grows shorter. Before it stops, the crazy situation on the train turns into a frantic search, fights and shootings. Is this a game or a premeditated crime? Who is the mysterious stranger on the train and why should he find him?
