In his directorial debut about psychic obsession, Clint Eastwood also stars as Dave Garver, a disc jockey who has his own show on a local radio station, where he reads poetry, talks about his life or plays requests.
And regularly every night, he gets a phone call from an admirer with an attractive voice asking him to play her a Misty song. When he meets his fan Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter) by chance one night in a bar, they have a brief romance. After a while, Dave decides to end their relationship, even as he plans to return to his former love, but Evelyn is having none of it.
She is able and willing to demand Dave's love with a knife in her hand, and soon everything and everyone in Dave's life becomes a potential target for Evelyn's terror...
