The story takes place a year before the outbreak of World War II, immediately after the Munich Agreement was signed in 1938. Against the backdrop of historical events, it follows the fate of a Jewish family as they come to terms with the coming events in their own way. The power of the story is enhanced by the contrasting portrayal, as the poetic story of the people unfolds against the implied tragic backdrop of historical weekly newspapers and radio news entering the film. The film sets out to bring the historical figure of Mr Nicholas Winton, whose great deed is brought to life again in the fictional story of the Silberstein family, to today's audience. This brave Englishman came to Prague at the end of 1938 to carry out his plan to save 669 Jewish children who would certainly not escape the tragic fate that Nazi ideology had prepared for them.
