The first part of one of the most popular sagas in the history of science fiction introduces American actress Sigourney Weaver as a woman of steely nerves, destined to fight an unbeatable being from outer space. The crew of the space transport ship Nostromo, on their way back to Earth from a business trip, are prematurely awakened from their slumber by the on-board computer. The passengers discover that the ship has picked up some kind of distant signal. They soon land on the desolate planet from which the signal originated and discover a crashed spacecraft, in which they find a strange hatchery with many large eggs. While examining one of them, a strange creature suddenly hatches and attaches itself to the face of one of the crew members. Any attempts to get rid of it are futile, so the crew, who break safety regulations, return to the ship with the mysterious creature. It disappears after a few hours, but then something terrible happens. During a communal dinner, an alien organism emerges from the torn chest of the disabled man and disappears to parts unknown. A fight for survival ensues, as the crew members are gradually eliminated, with only Ripley herself standing against the alien from outer space...
