In 1995, a decade after the failed assassination mission of The Terminator (1984), now 10-year-old John Connor (Edward Furlong) finds himself in foster care after his mother Sarah (Linda Hamilton) is incarcerated in a mental institution. To prevent John from changing the course of history and becoming the leader of the human Resistance Army, the self-assured computer system Skynet sends another cybernetic assassin; this time a near-indestructible, shape-shifting one. Now, against the backdrop of impending nuclear Armageddon, two unstoppable cyborgs - the obsolete but deadly T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and the far superior liquid-metal model T-1000 (Robert Patrick) - are after the same vulnerable target.
