The film is inspired by the real-life historical figure of William Wallace, who in the 13th century led the resistance against King Edward I of England.
One day, however, English soldiers attempt to rape her, and when William defends her, he is declared an outlaw and Murron is executed. Wallace leads the resistance against the English overlords and gains an ally in Princess Isabella, who helps him avoid most of the king's pitfalls. Eventually, however, Wallace is captured due to the treachery of his own troops...
