The immensely talented but somewhat reclusive Katie Mitchell is accepted to the university of her dreams. However, her plans to leave are thwarted by her father Rick, an eccentric nature lover who decides that he and the rest of Katie's family will drive her to university so they can enjoy each other's company one last time. Joining Katie and Rick on the trip are her wildly positive mother Linda, Katie's younger brother Aaron, and their cute, chubby dog Monchi. However, the Mitchells' plans are thwarted by an unexpected appliance uprising, as electronic devices that people love so much, from mobile phones to the latest models of personal robots, rebel against humans all over the world.
