Rocky, who won an exhausting rematch with champion Apollo Creed in the second film, became the world champion in all weight classes. He is now rich and could enjoy a comfortable life. However, a new danger looms on the horizon. Whenever Rocky appears in the ring, he is watched from a distance by the terrifying and bloodthirsty muscleman Clubber Lang. He makes mincemeat of his opponents and has his sights set on Rocky's championship title. Rocky's old trainer and friend Mikey soon notices the danger and realizes that Rocky has no chance against Clubber, who is full of hatred and rage. For several years, he manages to avert and postpone the impending clash. One day, however, Clubber publicly insults Rocky and manages to achieve his goal. Soon, the two rivals face each other in the ring. But in the second round, Rocky goes down. He is humiliated, ridiculed, his whole world has collapsed, and on top of that, Mikey has died. However, Apollo Creed returns to the scene, this time not as an opponent, but as a friend, helper, and advisor. Rocky, satiated and lazy with fame, has lost his form, his spark, and his legendary determination. Apollo takes him to the suburbs, where young boxers train, and Adrian convinces him that he will not get rid of his trauma unless he enters the ring again to show Clubber who the real master of the ring is...
