A Manhattan literary agent's descent into nightmarish delusion

Egoistical and obnoxious Yuppie literary agent Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) spends his days tormenting his meek secretary Alva (Maria Conchita Alonso) in 1980s New York City. However, his life spirals out of control after a passionate night with a mysterious woman named Rachel (Jennifer Beals). Convinced that she was a vampire who bit him, Peter comes to believe he is slowly transforming into a creature of the night himself. As paranoia and madness overtake his mind, he buys plastic vampire fangs, avoids sunlight, and slips entirely out of reality...

💡 Fun Facts from Production

• The Real Cockroach Scene: Demonstrating total dedication to his method acting, Nicolas Cage insisted on eating a real, live cockroach on camera (and had to do three takes!). The original script only called for him to eat a raw egg.
• Birth of an Iconic Internet Meme: The world-famous "You Don't Say?" reaction meme was directly traced from an illustration of Nicolas Cage’s wild facial expression during a confrontation scene in the film.
• Kafkaesque Themes: Peter Loew keeps a photograph of Franz Kafka on his office desk, serving as a subtle thematic nod to Kafka’s *The Metamorphosis*, swapping a bug transformation for a vampire delusion.
