Crash-landed in a world where apes rule and humans are beasts

Astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) and his crew awaken from deep cryo-sleep to crash-land on a desolate, unknown planet. Exploring the harsh wasteland, they are stunned to discover a society where the laws of nature are inverted: highly intelligent, speech-capable apes form the ruling class, while mute, primitive humans are hunted and caged like wild animals. Captured and rendered mute by a throat injury, Taylor is studied by sympathetic chimpanzee scientists Zira (Kim Hunter) and Cornelius (Roddy McDowall). Desperate to prove his intelligence and regain his freedom, Taylor escapes into the forbidden Forbidden Zone, where a shocking truth awaits him...
