It sounds like yet another unbelievable story. There is a videotape filled with images straight out of the most nightmarish dreams. Wherever it is played, a phone call soon follows, warning that whoever watched it will die in exactly seven days. Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a reporter for a renowned daily newspaper, naturally refuses to believe such a fantastical claim, but when four teenagers die under mysterious and unexplained circumstances, she decides to get to the bottom of the matter, because one of the “victims” was her niece.
It’s not easy at all, but eventually she gets her hands on the tape, watches it with her young son, and the phone really does ring immediately afterward. With only seven days and nights left, she and her boyfriend Noah (Martin Henderson) must find a way to save themselves and her only son. They have no idea how long a journey—shrouded in death and despair—they will have to embark on with Noah.
