In 2040, the modern spacecraft Event Horizon set out to explore the frontiers of our solar system. It disappeared without a trace behind the planet Neptune. Seven years later, however, it again emitted a signal from which it managed to decipher two words that sounded like "save me..." or "save yourself...".

The spaceship Louis and Clarke, led by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), is on a reconnaissance and rescue mission. Dr. Weir (Sam Neill), the designer of the Event Horizon, is brought aboard, but he doesn't give the crew a very convincing explanation of the ship's origin and construction. Upon arrival at the ship, strange things begin to happen, the first of which is that when the ship is scanned with a bioscanner, the entire ship appears to be biologically active. Soon the crew is faced with the horrifying discovery of where the ship has been for the past seven years.

Where human reason ends and paranoid conjecture begins...
