The end of summer in the film LIKE NEVER BEFORE also means the end of life. Vladimír Holas is dying. Who is Vladimír Holas? A painter, sculptor, and teacher of local significance. He painted many beautiful pictures – but not as great as he had wished. He was not a party member, not part of the Union of Fine Artists, and he never sold out to the previous regime. A house in a beautiful landscape is his final refuge; death is inevitable, and he doesn’t want to die in an impersonal hospital. He wants to fall standing – the way he lived. This intimate film centers around three key characters: besides the main protagonist, there are two women. Karla, about thirty-five, is somewhat similar to her life partner – a painter, a bohemian, outspoken and sharp-tongued. In contrast, there is Jaruna – a married nurse in her mid-fifties, once the painter’s lover. The trio fights a futile battle with death – struggling both within themselves and with each other – which brings each of them a certain kind of purification...
