FARGO, a cynical thriller from American indie film stars, brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, is another intelligent audience film made outside of Hollywood. Tight direction spiced with black humour and an excellent script based on a true story (it took place in Minnesota in 1987) show that the Coen brothers are still capable of bravely switching styles. Visually, the story is dominated by endless white, snow-covered areas with no horizon. The narrative unfolds in three interconnected storylines, following the actions of all the main characters. The focus is on the careful portrayal of the individual characters and on the specific atmosphere of the film, in which everyone is constantly eating and watching hockey on TV, among other things. The story mostly takes place "on the road" and is enhanced by the Nordic surnames of almost all the characters (according to the Coen brothers, who are from the state of Minnesota, there is a strong Scandinavian immigrant minority)...
