The tough sergeant, Detective Joseph Andrew "Joe" Bomowski (Sylvester Stallone), is a capable cop who is having a love affair with his lieutenant, Gwen Harper, but hasn't yet proposed a serious relationship to her. When his overprotective mother, Tutti, comes to visit him from Newark, New Jersey for a few days, his life is turned upside down. Mom decides to clean Joe's gun with bleach and destroys it, so she decides to buy another one for him and stumbles upon two criminals selling illegal guns. However, a shootout ensues and Tutti witnesses a murder. Now he has to stay with Joe, but his constant meddling drives him crazy...
