The next film by Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy) is the action thriller Dunkirk starring Fionn Whitehead, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy. The film's story, which unfolds sequentially on land, sea and air, follows the fate of several hundred thousand British and Allied soldiers under enemy encirclement on the beaches of Dunkirk. The defenceless men below are protected by Royal Air Force Spitfires as they engage the enemy in the skies. Meanwhile, hundreds of small craft with soldiers and civilians at the helm embark on a rescue mission.
