A very loose adaptation of John Updike's book that uses the story of three lonely women to reflect on the relationship between the sexes. The film combines elements of quirky comedy, horror and satire on the stale morality of the typical American small town, whose dated neatness (as in D. Lynch's films) contrasts sharply with what is not visible at first glance. Above all, The Witches of Eastwick is a fun, relaxing film, completely dominated by the riveting performance of Jack Nicholson, whose creation as the repulsively irresistible emissary of hell transcends the film's own framework.
