An enterprising koala guy named Buster Moon has one last chance to save the theatre he inherited from his father. He's putting it all on the line for a spectacular singing talent contest unlike any the world has ever seen. And as varied as the animal contestants are, so is their repertoire, which spans from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga.
Perhaps Buster's talent show wouldn't have been so spectacular if his faithful secretary Miss Crawly (a chameleon with very mischievous eyes) hadn't gotten the amount of prize money for the winners wrong on the flyers she then flooded the town with. And so, on the day of the contest, a long-haired snake of dreamers, hoping to win, forms outside the Buster's Theatre long before the contest begins. Among them, there are obvious talents whose stellar careers have so far been hindered by fate.
In the case of Johnny Monkey, he takes the form of his father, a notorious gangster who doesn't recognize his son's singing because you can't rob a bank with him. Rosita, on the other hand, is so busy running her little piggies on a rampage that the most she can sing is in the kitchen sink, and Mina, the vocally perfect elephant, can't make a sound in front of people. But when you have a dream, you should follow it, even if you have to fall down for a while in your efforts. As Buster Moon says, "The best part about hitting rock bottom is that there's only up from here"...
