Zločin v Polné is a gripping drama based on a real-life criminal case. On Holy Saturday in 1899, the body of nineteen-year-old seamstress Anežka Hrůzová was discovered on a road between the village of Věžnička and the town of Polná. She had a cut wound on her throat and had likely bled to death. Investigators found no evidence of sexual assault, but local doctors believed there was too little blood at the crime scene. When people began asking where the “missing” blood had gone, a horrifying answer quickly spread: Jews had supposedly used it in Passover matzah. Suspicion soon fell on Leopold Hilsner — an insolent and not very intelligent drifter and beggar…
