The royal squire Jiřík tastes a bite of the magical snake and understands the language of animals. However, he is guilty of transgressing his king's orders and faces either the death penalty or a precarious and dangerous journey to find Goldilocks, a princess from a mysterious realm in the middle of the sea. He sets off on his journey accompanied by Štěpán, with whom he has grown up since childhood, and Štístek, the little dog whose life Jiřík saved.
