Waring Hudsucker, the head of the highly successful company Hudsucker Industries, commits suicide. His board of directors, led by Sidney Mussburger (Paul Newman), comes up with a brilliant plan to make a lot of money: appoint a fool as the new president. Once the stock price drops low enough, Sidney and his associates can buy up shares for next to nothing, take over the company, and restore its wealth. They choose the naïve and unsuspecting Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins), who has just started working in the mailroom. Norville is goofy enough to bring any company to ruin, but sharp and determined reporter Amy Archer soon suspects something is wrong and launches a secret investigation into Hudsucker Industries...
