When a group of X-Men embark on a fairly routine rescue mission in orbit to the endangered crew of the space shuttle, they seem to have everything under control and the operation is going well. But appearances are deceiving. Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) is struck by an unknown and deadly cosmic force that turns her into one of the most powerful mutants. Even with the support of the other X-Men, Jean struggles not only with her newly charged and unstable power, but also with her personal demons. Gradually, she spirals into a terrifying spiral and loses control of herself. In addition, a mysterious figure (Jessica Chastain) begins to influence her thinking, coming up with dangerous suggestions for harnessing her destructive power. Grey transforms into the Dark Phoenix and becomes a threat not only to her now former mutant friends, but to the entire planet.
