Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), a former financial shark whose insurance fraud and money laundering put him behind bars 23 years ago, stands at the prison gates a changed and perhaps better man. His prospects are not rosy, with not only his former colleagues looking through his fingers, but also his daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan), who has deliberately cut all ties with him. Her fiancé Jacob (Shia LaBeouf), who looks strikingly similar to Charlie Sheen's character from the first episode, could become a certain motive for his daughter. He's also a young financial predator ready to take a chance and never let it go.
He makes fabulous money in the company of his mentor Louis Zabel (Frank Langella), only for a series of false accusations of the firm's massive debts to lead to a deep plunge in its stock. The bottom falls out, and so does Jacob, who goes to a lecture by his would-be father-in-law in which the reformed sinner predicts the coming of a global financial crisis. After the lecture, Jacob seeks out Gekko and makes a special deal with him. Gekko uses his old contacts to help him find out who destroyed his benefactor's company and why. And Jake, in return, curses his way to his daughter. But the key question is: Can Gordon Gekko really be trusted?
