Although Vinnetou tries to keep his agreements with the American government, his tribe is constantly threatened by bandits who want to take his tribe's land. Vinnetou and Old Shatterhand travel to Santa Fe to negotiate peace directly with the governor.
He assures them of his intentions and asks them to deliver a message to Chief White Buffalo, asking him to be loyal to the government, which in return promises more land for his tribe. However, the treacherous secretary reveals the contents of the message to the bandits, who are preparing provocations leading to armed conflict and the expropriation of Indian land, and they decide to eliminate the two messengers. However, both Vinnetou and Old Shatterhand escape the assassination, while the Apache chief continues on his way, his white brother following in the footsteps of the assassins.
While Vinnetou, pursued by the bandits, escapes from a series of dangerous situations and steadily advances, Old Shatterhand discovers the intentions of the band, which wants to kill the Apache chief and seize his tribe's territory because kerosene deposits have been discovered there. He rushes to his friend's aid, and telegraphs the governor to send an army to the aid of the Apaches, against whom the bandits have allied themselves with the Chivar Chief White Buffalo. However, Vinnetou confides in his friend with a premonition of impending death...
