Screenwriter David Koepp "adapted" the famous novel of the same name by H. G. Wells, whose theme is the invasion of Martians on planet Earth, and moved its story from the late nineteenth century to the hot present day. Dockworker Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is troubled by problems in his family, whose members are no longer understanding each other. However, a danger of unimaginable scale is hurtling toward planet Earth. It takes the form of alien predators who have decided to destroy our civilization and are technologically well-equipped for it. Personal troubles fade into the background. People, including Ray's family, must unite if they are to have at least a minimal chance of survival...
