War for the Planet of the Apes begins two years after the events of the previous film, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The intelligent chimpanzee Caesar (Andy Serkis) has become the unquestioned leader of the growing ape community, and now that we meet him, he is thrust by circumstance into a new role as war general. For the situation of the ape clan led by Caesar is dire.
Their group has retreated to the forests, where they frequently engage in battles with the human army, led by the ruthless Colonel McCullough (Woody Harrelson).
