On Sunday, November 14, 1965, in Vietnam's Ia Drang Valley, Americans clashed for the first time with enemies from communist North Vietnam. Three hundred and ninety-five American soldiers were facing ten times the number of enemies who were also on their own territory. The ensuing three days of fighting went down in history as the beginning of the Vietnam War...

The film, written and directed by Randall Wallace, captures not only the hellish battle that was unleashed in the "Valley of the Shadows", but also the feelings of the people involved. It wasn't just the American and Vietnamese soldiers - their loved ones, especially their wives, also experienced the dramatic events from afar. However, the main character is Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson), a sincerely religious Catholic and father of five, but above all an excellent soldier and strategist who is not afraid of even the most dangerous situations.

The film is based on a memoir by retired Lieutenant General Harold G. Moore and war correspondent Joseph L. Galloway, who was an observer at the actual battle. Both authors contributed to the picture as expert advisors...
