Two friends (Jonah Hill and Miles Teller), fresh out of their twenties, living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War, decide to take full advantage of a little-known government initiative allowing small businesses to bid on US military contracts. Despite their modest beginnings, they soon start making big money and living the high life. But the situation gets out of hand for the two main characters when they manage to win a $300 million contract to supply weapons to the Afghan army—but as it later turns out, the deal involves a few very shady people, including the US government...
