Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a systems engineer at FedEx, has a personal and professional life that literally runs on the clock, and his hectic profession often takes him unexpectedly away from the Kelly he loves. Chuck's hectic lifestyle changes dramatically after the plane he was travelling on crashes. He survives, but finds himself in the most remote and desolate place he could ever imagine. Deprived of the "crutches" of civilization and his inner sense of perpetual time pressure, he discovers that in order to defend his bare life he must first secure water, food and at least a temporary shelter. When he overcomes even this, he realizes that his greatest enemy will be loneliness. But how to defend against it and how to overcome it when the hope of rescue is quite slim?
