In 2003, a parasitic fungus is ravaging the planet, turning humans into violent predators known as the infected. Twenty years later, seasoned survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal) is recruited by a group of rebellious freedom fighters to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a repressive quarantine zone. What is initially a quick and easy job, soon becomes a brutal and dark journey across a post-apocalyptic United States where Joel and Ellie will have to rely on each other.
