Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) are buddies now, especially since Dusty has ditched his long-cherished thug image, and Brad has stopped doing doggy stuff to match him. They even decide to spend this Christmas all together as one big happy family, even with both wives and all their and their banished offspring.
The plan gets a major crack the moment their fathers are invited for the holidays. Cop, with Brad's warm and loving dad (John Lithgow) there would be no problem in that regard. It gets worse, however, with Dusty's dad (Mel Gibson), the ultimate tough guy who doesn't acknowledge physical contact and is capable of joking about dead prostitutes with young children. Dusty has always wanted to get even with him, and now he's afraid he'll totally disappoint him with his effeminacy.
And he's even more worried that his father's presence will turn an idyllic Christmas into a war. And that's exactly what it's inevitably going to come to, because neither Brad nor his dad want to be the short end of the stick in this fierce battle...
