New York City detective Keith Miller is a typical tough cop shaken by life experience on the streets, whose planned career rise is complicated by allegations of illegal behavior that have dragged him down since his last case. But there's new action on the order of the day - robbers are holding dozens of hostages in a robbed bank. This crisis situation is going to be very unusual. For Detective Miller must take on perhaps the smartest criminal he has met in his storied career, and try to thwart what seems to be the perfect crime.
As the negotiations between the police and the cold-blooded strategist heat up, and everyone involved starts to lose their temper, a powerful lawyer steps in and wants to use the crisis to her advantage. And Detective Miller soon realizes that the rules have not been clearly dealt in this cat-and-mouse game, that the sides of good and evil are constantly switching roles, and that a seemingly perfect crime can be even more perfect.
