Bill and Chris, Seattle policemen, have it tough. Their demanding job pulls one away from a happy family and drags the other into endless trouble — and into a tempestuous relationship with Maria. This unlucky duo just completed a dramatic and dangerous arrest in a garbage truck and have already been assigned a new case. Commanded by stout Deputy District Attorney Gina, the detectives are tasked with surveilling a house where a key trial witness is expected to appear. The witness was quietly hidden away to await trial, but vile criminals destroyed her refuge using many tons of inflammable material to silence her permanently. Miraculously she escaped, then vanished without a trace, and police suspect she may surface at her friends’ home.
The stout bosswoman instantly appoints one detective as husband, the other as stepson, and forces the protesting pair to learn the details of family life. Then she heads into action with them, her dog, and four suitcases. The perpetually quarrelsome “family” moves into the neighborhood of the suspect’s home and begins their mission. Their focused surveillance is unexpectedly complicated by Chris’s emotional problems, Bill’s depression over losing his mustache, and Gina’s dog’s unpredictable antics. But professionalism pays off, and a ring of both police and criminals begins to close on the suspect’s house, determined to eliminate the inconvenient witness. At times everyone is shooting at everyone, but eventually it will end well. Chris likely marries. Gina’s dog ultimately eats the cat. Bill grows back his mustache — and the witness speaks...
