A very strong bond has formed between reclusive primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) and the exceptionally intelligent male gorilla George, whom Davis has cared for since birth. But a dangerous genetic experiment gone wrong turns the gentle ape into a huge raging monster.
And if that weren't enough, it soon becomes clear that other animals are similarly mutated. As these artificially created alpha predators rampage uncontrollably across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams up with a discredited genetic engineer to develop an antidote and makes his way across the inscrutable battlefield, not only to stop the impending global catastrophe, but also to save the terrifying monster that used to be his friend...
