Although the title of this film might evoke some sweet romantic comedies, this film has nothing to do with brides and grooms on the run. Quite the opposite. Although its plot revolves around a wedding, it is first and foremost a powerful psychological drama, giving a glimpse into the dark corners of the human soul. The protagonist is a girl named Kym, who, although her appearance resembles a princess, hides deep inside her pain and inner demons that are tearing her heart to pieces. That is why she behaves the way she does.
Her family can't stand her, she has spent the last years in a mental institution, but now she is returning home because her sister Rachel is getting married. And it is the tense environment surrounding the marriage that becomes the arena for a great battle of emotions and traumas, during which everything that has been kept quiet for so long may finally be spoken. Hollywood star Anne Hathaway, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance, excels in the lead role, a very unusual one for her. The film is directed by none other than Oscar-winning Jonathan Demme, director of the unforgettable gems Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia.
