MAJOR CASE SQUAD 1+2 (2014‑2016)
Cases of the 1st Department is a crime series inspired by 22 real cases handled after 1989 by homicide detectives in Prague. The 1st Department is an elite unit that in recent years has achieved a clearance rate of around 95%. Its officers intervene when a murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm resulting in death or another of the most serious crimes occurs. The screenplay was co‑written by the current head of the homicide division, Josef Mareš. This crime series thus leans on an extraordinary degree of authenticity and precision in depicting the police environment, jargon and investigative procedures. A characteristic feature is that investigators often relatively quickly know who the perpetrator is. Much harder, however, is to catch him and prove the crime. Seemingly minor details also play an important role. The method of investigation and conviction has been, to a large extent, preserved for all the cases. Individual episodes are also inspired by high‑profile media cases. For instance the capture of a sexual offender from Jižní Město, the murder of a television station employee, a killing ordered by a homeowner to get rid of an inconvenient tenant. You have the chance to find out how the police proceeded when capturing the offender, what hampered their work, and which trick they had to employ to convict him. MAJOR CASE SQUAD 3 (2022)
The third season of the cult series inspired by real cases… The favourite heroes return in new investigations, in a new era. The detectives are six years older and much has changed in their field. Perpetrators are more inventive and deceitful. Technological progress brings new forms of criminality, new investigative methods apply. The team of criminal investigators has been expanded with younger members – investigator Jiří Netík and operative Adéla Čulíková. Team 1st Department heads out into the field again…
