- Description
On Wednesday, October 26, 1881, at about 3 p.m., in the Arizona frontier town of Tombstone, on the grounds of the Harwood Lumber Company opposite the entrance to the O.K. Corral, a fierce gunfight between ten men occurred. On one side stood Marshal Wyatt Earp with his two brothers and the well-known gunfighter Doc Holliday, on the other the Clanton brothers, the McLaury brothers, Billy Claiborne and the venal Sheriff Johnny Behan.
The shooting lasted about half a minute and the bodies of the three criminals were left on the ground. This event has gone down in history as the O.K. shootout. Corral and over the years has taken on the proportions of a symbolic clash between law and lawlessness in the wild American frontier...
