In Howard Hawks' ageless comedy, Marilyn Monroe created the prototype of the glamorous, flowing-maned sex goddess who wraps her arms around the hearts of all the men around her. The role of the adorable naive blonde Lorelei was tailor-made for her and the film was a huge success. It earned Monroe the nickname "dumb blonde", which would follow her almost all her life in the form of other films. The story is about two cabaret performers, Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw. Wealth-addled Lorelei wants to marry a wealthy man "to have time for love". In contrast, the wise and love-skeptical Dorothy, played by the excellent "dark-haired" Jane Russell, protects her friend from the unpleasant consequences of her irresponsible theories. Both girls find the right man towards the end: Dorothy the clever but loving Malone and Lorelei the wealthy Esmond. It is not entirely certain, however, whether she really loves him or whether she prefers his wealth...
