Description:

Julie is an 18-year-old high school student who lives with her grandmother and has a lot of worries about how to cope with the loss of her parents and her teenage problems. The tough special ed boys aren't impressed with this tough school group - so she has her other problems taken care of. But her grandmother is leaving in due course, and now her dead father's old boyfriend, the seemingly subtle Japanese Miyagi, will temporarily share the household with Julia.

The diminutive old gentleman may have a bit of trouble with English, but he has a strange sparkle in his eyes and a classic college karate sword in every pinkie. And Julie has a promising karate foundation, a strong desire to improve further, and a fairly legitimate feeling that improving her fighting style might come in handy sometime in the near future. And since she's just been suspended from school for a fortnight, the experienced Miyagi decides that the best place for her to "find" herself again is at a monastery where the monks cultivate traditional Zen philosophy and martial arts.

It seems that a somewhat different girl is coming back, but the old problems still persist. Dugan's tough guys just won't leave her alone, and when they double-cross her friend Eric at the port, Julie decides to put her newly acquired knowledge to the test. Her fight, like Miyagi's final confrontation with the aggressive Dugan, turns out to be exactly as the Japanese sage instructed: fighting is no good, someone always gets hurt...
