Description:
Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg) is a 16-year-old black girl who becomes the only eyewitness to the murder of her best friend, who is shot in cold blood by a white police officer.
She finds herself in the unfortunate situation of facing pressure from her community, which consists mostly of poor black neighbours, and on the other hand from the rich, mostly white students of her high school.
Since she was 7 years old, her father Maverick (Russell Hornsby) has been instilling principles and rules for her to follow in order to survive in the community. Now, after the murder of her friend, it's a time of testing where Starr must find the strength to stand up for what's right...
