The story takes place in the near future. The Mimics, an alien race resembling a colony of bees, have been relentlessly attacking Earth, turning major cities into rubble and leaving millions of human victims in their wake. Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cage (Tom Cruise), who has never been in a battle, is demoted without his haircuts and, with zero training and meager weaponry, is sent on a mission that is nothing short of suicidal. He is killed within minutes, but before that he manages to disable Alpha. Though it seems impossible, he wakes up again at the beginning of the same hellish day and is forced to fight and die again... and so on and on.
